Product Description

Here is a detailed Sponge Gourd (Luffa cylindrica) Seed Germination Description suitable for educational, gardening, or agricultural use:

Sponge Gourd Seed Germination Description
Sponge gourd (Luffa cylindrica), also known as luffa or vegetable sponge, typically germinates within 7 to 14 days under warm and moist conditions. The process begins when the seed absorbs water and the embryo becomes active.

Optimal Conditions for Germination:

Temperature: 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 90°F) – warm conditions are essential.

Moisture: Soil should be kept consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Light: Seeds do not need light to germinate but require sunlight for seedling growth.

Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil or seed-starting mix with good aeration.

Germination Process:

Imbibition: The hard seed coat takes in water, softens, and swells.

Radicle Emergence: The root (radicle) is the first to emerge and anchors into the soil.

Shoot and Cotyledon Development: The shoot (hypocotyl) pushes upward, bringing the cotyledons (seed leaves) above ground.

True Leaf Formation: Within a few days after emergence, the first set of true leaves appear, beginning the plant's vegetative growth phase.

Note: Sponge gourd seeds have a tough outer shell. To speed up germination, seeds can be soaked in warm water for 12–24 hours before sowing or lightly scarified.
